US Navy considering the possible use of so-called Tuna clippers as auxiliary vessels according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 7

An item reported that the US Navy considered to use Tuna-clippers to create a very useful and valuable fleet of auxiliary vessels. Along the American Pacific coastline between San Diego/San Pedro-Mexico and even in the Central American waters were around 80 Tuna-clippers active in the fishery. Length varied between 8-165 feet, with a machinery consisting of 200-500 hp diesel engines and a speed of 8,5-9,5 knots. All vessels were fitted out with wireless telegraph equipment and their crews numbered 10-20 men.
