An item referred to the U.S.R. dated 22 July 1937 reporting that the voyage first British flotilla’s T.M.B.‘s towards Malta nearly was completed, a 2nd flotilla was nearly completed and on short notice was a third to be ordered. The seagoing qualities of the British T.M.B.’s were better as the foreign opponents. They were yet not fitted out with crude oil engines, but a British firm was developing such engine. The 6 boats were on their voyage escorted by a destroyer, a tender and a tanker. Length of a T.M.B. was 18,25 metres and the displacement 15 tons. Maximum speed 40 knots with an armament consisting of 2-45,6cm torpedo tubes, some machineguns and depth charges. Building costs 23.000 pound sterling.(1)
