An item referred to the magazine R.M. dated June 1937 reported that the US Navy fleet manoeuvres between 16 April-28 May 1937 were attended by 139 warships consisting of 10 battleships, 10 heavy and 7 light cruisers, 3 aircraft carriers, 47 destroyers, 20 submarines, 4 minelayers and 34 auxiliary ships, 474 aircraft (of which 226 stationed on aircraft carriers) and 40.000 men.
