An item referred to the magazine le Yacht dated 3 July 1937 reporting that the Italian cabinet denied the rumours that except for the battleships Littorio and Veneto already under construction would started the building of another 2 battleships if the Italian proposal to the USA to attend a disarmament conference were refused.(1)

1. The Littorio or Vittorio Veneto-class consisted of the Littoral (laid down 28 October 1934), Vittorio Veneto (28 October 1934), Roma (laid down 18 September 1938)and the Impero (laid down 14 May 1938 but never completed), preceded by the never realized Francesco Caracciolo-class and the realized Andrea Doria-class.
