An item referred to the magazine le Yacht dated 26 June 1937 reporting that Italy was increasing her submarine fleet on large scale. In 1934 were just 2 submarines laid down, in 1935 already 10, in 1926 12 and in 1937 even 20. Within 4 years were in such manner 44 submarines built, a number not achieved by any other country. Within 2 years would Italy posses 180 submarines of which 47 had a displacement of 590-650 ton, 48 of 770-880 tons and 18 of 950-1.350 tons and finally 5 submarine minelayers of which the largest was above the 1.300 ton. Al the submarines were commissioned after 1928.(1)
