Spanish navy wanted 3 battleships more according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1913 No. 5

An item reported that for the realisation of a second battleship division for the Spanish navy the Spanish minister of navy asked for an additional budget of 80 million peseta’s.(1)

1. Between 1909-1921 was the Espana-class consisting of the Espana, Alfonso XII and James I built with a displacement of 15.700 (normal)-16.450 (full load) tons and a main armament of 4x2-30,5cm/12” 50 cal guns. It were the smallest dreadnoughts ever to be built. A second class is never realized. In the Spanish Fleet Plan of 1903 was originally asked for 7-15.000 ton battleships.
