The tugs of the Soviet North western River Steamship Company according to a CIA report dated 30 April 1953

An item reported that the North western River Steamship Company or Severo-Zapadnoye Rechnoye Parokhodstvo with her central directorate located at Leningrad was active on Lake Ladoga and the rivers Neva, Volkhov and Luga. Exceptfor 150 barges consisted her fleet of around 250-300 self-propelled ships. The latter consisted of 50-60% of tugs commonly steam driven although tugs built after the Second World had diesel engines. Mostly were the tugs screw propelled and just a few paddle wheel. Some tugs were quite powerful with a horsepower as high as 1.200hp.
