An item reported that the tanks of
Soviet gasoline tankers and barges in the Caspian Region were to be
hermetically sealed. Fumes were to be discharged through vents erecting above
the decks. Despite these precautions exploded the tanker Tuymazy in 1950. For
the crews was working on board of gasoline transport vessels far form a
sinecure. Rubber gloves were used as protection but burns were still common.
Sailors were warned not to breath the fumes. These living conditions resulted
in a constant mental strain.
