Yaeyama
An item referred to the magazine Marine Rundschau reporting that after the very satisfying experiments with fuel oil on board of the small Japanese cruiser Yacyama (1) between 1906-1908 was in the last naval budget already mentioned that the admiralty wanted fuel oil as standard. Since then was a permanent delivery contract signed with the Japanschen Petroleum Aktien-Gesellschaft. In the naval harbours was started with the building of tankers and the aged coastal defence ship Fuso (2) converted into a tanker/

1. The unprotected cruiser Yaeyama, laid down at the Yokosuka naval shipyard in June 1887, launched in March 1889, completed in March 1892 and broken u in 1911.
2. Central-battery ironclad, since December 1905 reclassified as coastal defence ship, building ordered on 24 September 1875, laid down by Samuda Brothers, Cubitt Town, London, United Kingdom, launched on 17 April 1877, completed in January 1878, stricken on 1 April 1909 and ordered to be sold to be broken up on 15 February 1909.
