Newest British scout cruisers had a lower fuel consumption according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1909-1910 no. 8

An item reported that the new British scout cruisers fitted out with turbines had a lower fuel consumption than their predecessors fitted out with piston engines. The latter consumed for each hip 8,15 kilo steam while the City-class cruisers which had turbines had a consumption of 5.90 kilo or even with Curtis turbines just 5.65 kilo. For the needed steam were 12 boilers with a heating surface of 4.650 square metres and a grate surface of 84 square metres available.(1)
