Laid down by the New Admiralty Yard, St. Petersburg, Russia on 12 July 1885, launched on 13 July 1887, commissioned in June 1891, renamed Zarya Svobody around 9 May 1917, decommissioned on 21 may 1921 and sold to be broken up on 22 August 1922. Of the Imperator Aleksandr II-class consisting of the Imperator Aleksandr II and Imperator Nikolai I, preceded by the Ekaterina II-class and succeeded by the Dvenadsat Apostolov.
