The Romanian river traffic within Romania and with the USSR, Hungary and Czechoslovakia according to a CIA report dated 9 June 1954

An item reported that the River Traffic Directorate of Sovromtransport was responsible for the management of the Danube river traffic. There were four kinds of traffic, namely
1. Cereals and oil shipped in the USSR towards Austria and Czechoslovakia with as return cargoes bauxite, pyrites, cars, industrial machinery and metal made articles, to give an impression in July 1953 totally mounting 250.000 tons.
2. Cereals shipped in Romania towards Czechoslovakia, Austria and Hungary with as return cargoes a diversity of products, in July 1953 mounting 45.000 tons.
3. Shipping of military cargoes consisting of construction materials like cement, lumber, gravel and sand mounting in July 1953 130.000 tons.
4. Shipping of diversified cargo within Romania amounting in July 1953 5.000 tons.
