Built between 1936-1939 were 10 vessels built with a limited 1,500 tons standard displacement according to the London Naval Treaty. With similar characteristiscs as the Gridley- and Bagley-classes. Hull number DD 404. Laid down by Philadelphia Navy Yard on 22 September 1937, launched on 28 July 1938, commissioned on 10 November 1939, decommissioned on 26 August 1946, pariticipated in Operation Crossroads off Bikini Atoll, scuttled off Kwajalein on 22 March 1948 and stricken on 5 April 1948.

Laid down by Germaniawerft, Kiel, Germany with yard number 564 on 23 April 1936, launched on 22 August 1938, commissioned on, 1 August 1940, decommissioned on 7 May 1945, surrendered on 8 May 1946, handed over to the US Navy on 13 December 945, commissioned on 5 January 1946, decommissioned on 29 August 1946, hull number IX-300, towed to the Kwajalein Atoll after the Operation Crossroads and capsized on 22 December 1946.

Laid down by Mitsubishi, Kobe, Japan on 5 December 1921, launched on 22 December 1922, completed and commissioned on 17 September 1923, renamed RO-60 on 1 November 1924, last time recommissioned on 15 October 1940, damaged by an American aircraft off Wake Island on 21 December 1941, wrecked on a reef north of Kwajalein Atoll on 29 December 1941, stricken on 15 February 1942 and destroyed after her torpedoes detonated during an air attack later in the war.
