Of the Eclipse-class. Sister ships were the Diana, Dido, Eclipse, Isis, Juno, Minerva, Talbot and Venus. Laid down at N.C.&A. Barrows (Naval Construction and Armaments Company/Vickers) on 29 August 1894, launched on 13 March 1896, completed for service on 18 November 1897 and sold at Bombay 20 February 1919 to be broken up. Building costs 256,306,00 pound sterling.
With a displacement of 5,600 tons and as dimensions 350-373 (over all) x 53’5”-53‘6” x 20‘6". Her crew numbered 450 men. The armament consisted of 5x1-6” quick firing guns, 61x1-4” quick firing guns, 6x1-3pdr quick firing guns, 2 machineguns and 3-18” torpedo tubes (of which two submerged). In 1905 was the armament changed into 11-6”quick firing guns while the torpedo tubes remained. The two triple expansion engines provided circa 8,000 ihp allowing with the two screws a speed of circa 19,5 knots. The coal bunker capacity was 550 tons. The armour consisted of 1.5-3” gun shields, a 3” thick engine hatch while the decks and the conning tower were protected by 1.5-3”.
