British merchant schooner captured by Russian navy according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 24 August 1838

France. Since some days tidings arrived from harbours in the Mediterranean that the Russian navy captured a British schooner which blockaded the coast of Circassie. Diplomatic problems were expected just when the British merchant ship Vixen in the past was captured. According to some sources she was loaded with war stores which British merchants wanted to sell to the rebellions in Circassie. In a newspaper of Malta dated 4 August was the next news item published. This day was a rumour made public that the British schooner Circe master Clark was captured off the Circassian coasts. He left Malta 4 July with stores for Trebisonde and a small amount of sugar for the Russian fortress Redoubte Kaleh. After unloaded the stores she continued her voyage when the Russian off the coasts of Abasia captured her. After an investigation of the cargo she was brought in to Sebastopol. In the London newspapers dated until 22 August was still nothing reported dealing with the capture of the Cruiser.
