Between the United States and the Mexican Republic the relations were still worse. A Mexican warship which blockaded her revolting territory Texas was captured 16 April by a North American goelette which caused quite a lot of disorder in some Mexican cities like Tampico where citizens in public asked for a war. The Mexican minister of foreign affairs protested seriously against the accepting of the independence of Texas by the United States. The reason for the capture was that Mexican warships had taken merchant ships of New Orleans which were transporting arms and war stores to the rebellions.
