British RFA fast fleet tanker Wave Ruler (A 390) 1997-


Of the Wave-class with as sister ship the Wave Knight which ships were to replace the Olna and Olwen from the 1960s. Operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.Ordered on 12 March 1997, laid down at the yard of Kvaerner Grovan BAE Systems Marine, Govan, Glasgow on the river Clyde on 10 February 2000, launched on 9 February 2001 and commissioned on 27 April 2003. With a displacement of 31,500 tonnes are her dimensions 196,5 x 28,25 x 9,97 metres. Fitted out with 4 xWartsila diesel generators providing 18,76 MW and 2 x GEC Alstom motors supplying 14 MV allowing a speed of 18 knots and with a speed of 15 knots a range of 10,000 nautical miles. Her crew numbers 80 men belonging to the RFA with provision for another 22 men belonging to the RN responsible for the helicopter and weapon systems. The armament consists of 2-30mm guns, 4-7,62mm machine guns and she carried with her 1 Merlin helicopter for which she had full hangar facilities. An option is to add two Vulcan Phalanx CIWS. She is able to transport 16,000M3 liquids including 3,000M3 aviation fuel and 500M3 solids.
