New cruiser Leipzig according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad evening edition dated 18 October 1929

This morning was at Wilhelmshaven in the presence of a large public the new cruiser Leipzig launched. Dr. Rother upper burgomaster of Leipzig was responsible for the baptising speech.(1)

1. An improved K-class cruiser with as sister ship the Nürnberg, although her sister ship was again proved resulting in not similar displacement, dimensions and so on. With a displacement of 8,380 tons were her dimensions 177 x 16,3 x 5,65 metres. Their main armament consisted of 3x3-15cm guns. Her building was ordered in 1928, she was laid down on 18 April 1928, launched on 18 October 1929 and commissioned on 8 October 1931. She was captured by the British on 30 June 1945 at Apenarde and apparently served temporarily as floating barracks for the German Mine Sweeping Administration at Wilhelmshaven before finally being scuttled on 16 December 1946 in the North Sea while loaded with gas ammunition on the position 57°53’ North 06°13’ East.
