The Spanish navy cruising for British merchant ships according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 4 November 1780

Cadiz, 3 October. The Spanish frigate El Rosario which blockaded Gibraltar arrived 30 October in the harbour of Algeciras with a British frigate which left Gibraltar 25 October. The British crew numbered 17 men including the master and a gunner and the spouse of the lieutenant colonel of the 72nd regiment and 8 other passengers. In the same harbour were also another British frigate and a British hooker brought in which both left Gibraltar in the night of 26 October but which were captured by the Spanish frigates La St. Barbara and La Asuncion cruising off the entrance to the Strait. The crew of this British frigate also numbered 17 men including 2 merchants, the master, 2 of his slaves and 3 officers. The hooker had 21 sailors and 20 passengers on board.
