French squadron commanded by Gantheaume in the Mediterranean according to the Dutch newspaper Opregte Haarlemse Courant dated 26 May 1801

An item dated Livorno 3 May reported that a French squadron commanded by admiral Gantheaume (1) consisting of 12 warships anchored 2 May at Livorno but in the meantime left again towards Corsica. One ship was left behind probably to escort French troops from Livorno towards Elba. The king of Naples offered his navy to the French Republic although it existed just of 3 frigates while the ships of the line were in the past dismantled and the rigging used for ships of the squadron commanded by lord Nelson.
