Spain fitting out fleet according to the Dutch magazine Maandelyksche Nederlandsche Mercurius dated February 1758

Tidings received from Madrid, reported that warships were fitted out although yet unknown for which purpose. (1)

1. This item refers to the 1756-1763 war in which Prussia almost was destroyed by Austria, France and Russia but survived due to the fact that the Russian czar Peter II ended the hostilities followed by the peace treaty of Hubertusburg in 1756. Prussia had started the Seven Years War also known as the third Silezian war by invading in 1756 Sachsen and a year later Bohemen. Prussian ruler was in that period Frederick II the Great (1740-1786). The Russian czar Peter II responsible fro the treaty of St. Petersburg which just ruled seven months was on 9 July 1762 replaced by his own spouse Catharina the Great. When the war started was Elizaveta Petrovna empress (reign 6 December 1741-5 January 1762).
