American transport Prairie involved in landing troops at Veracruz, Mexico according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 23 April 1914

An item dated Veracruz 22 April reported that American troops landed at Veracruz, Mexico using whale boats and supported by gunfire of the transport Prairie and capturing the city.(1)

1. The USS Prairie (AD-5), built by William Cramp&Sons, Philadelphia, USA in 1890, acquired by the US Navy on 6 April 1898, converted into an auxiliary cruiser, later used as transport, during the First World War as destroyer tender, for the last decommissioned on 22 November 1922 and sold on 22 June 1923.
