Norwegian tanker Willey in problems according to the Dutch newspaper De Gooi- en Eemlander dated 29 April 1940

An item dated Charleston 29 April reported that fire broken out on board of the Norwegian tanker Willey loaded with kerosene while being on the Cooper river (South Carolina).(1) Her crew of 28 men left the ship.

1. Roger Jordan. The world’s merchant fleets 1939. Mentioned a Norwegian tanker called Willy if the Victor Henssens Rederi-A/S of Oslo active in the oil and petroleum transport. She was the former Gold Shell 29, Build in 1916 by the shipyard of Harlan&Hollingsworth Corporation of Wilmington, Delaware. Measured 5.832 gross registers tons and a deadweight of 8.396 tons and as dimensions 426’0’x 53’5”x x 24’7” (hold) and a speed of 9.5 knots.
