Venezuela ordered building of destroyers in Italy according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 10 May 1954

An item reported that a day earlier at the shipyards of the firm Ansaldo at Livorno, Italy the keels were laid down of three fast destroyers for the Venezuelan navy. The ships were to be named Almirante Clemente, Juan José Flores and the José Morán. The first ship was to be handed over in July 1955. The Venezuelan cabinet ordered the building of six destroyers in Italy. (1)

Jane’s Fighting Ships 1958-1959 mentioned six light destroyers or fast frigates of the Almirante Clemente class consisting of the Almirante Clemente, Almirante Garcia, Almirante Brion, General de Austria, General José Moran and the General Flores. With a displacement of 1,300 (trials)-1,500 9full load) and as dimensions 320½ (over all0 x 35½ x 8½ (trials) feet. The armament consisted if 2x2-4” guns, 4-cm anti aircraft guns, 8-2cm anti aircraft guns and 3-21  torpedo tubes.
