British Royal Navy in 1935 too weak according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 28 February 1934

An item referred to the British newspaper Morning Post which complained about the weakness of the Royal British navy. A just so-called published Bluebook dealing with the strengths of the navies all over the world made clear that the British navy stayed behind in comparison with other countries. In 1935 was the London Naval Treaty not longer applicable (1).England would posses on that moment just three or four aged battleships against the eight of the USA and the five of Japan. England would just posses 50% of the necessary minimum number of cruisers. Also the number of aged units among the British destroyers was extremely high. The newspaper pointed out that England made a mistake if she thought that the disarmament treaties of the League of Nations secured her safety.

Note
1. The London Naval Treaty was signed on 22 April 1930 (ratifications on 27 October) between England, Japan, France, Italy and the USA with the intension to regulate (future submarine) warfare and to limit naval shipbuilding.
