Hungary interested in German ships according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 30 January 1940

An item reported that a Hungarian delegation with head admiral Olaf Wulf (1) at London the possibilities of acquiring German ships lying in South American ports investigated. Hungarian circles seemed to believe that the British government would approve the sale of those ships tot Hungary as part of the liquidation of the Germen debts to Hungary. The ships were probably to be used for a Hungarian shipping line between the Danube ports and Alexandria. The British government however referred however to their earlier opinions about transferring hostile tonnage.
