British tug Badia 1909-1947 (1962)




In 1906 built at the shipyard of Philip&Son Ltd, Darthmouth, United Kingdom with building nr. 347 for William Watkins, London with a gross register tonnage of 150 tons and as dimensions 29,31 x 6,25 x 3,28 metres and fitted out with a 3 cylinder triple expansion engine supplying 500 hp. Between 31 July 1914 and 7 September 1917 serving as the armed boarding steamer Chester III in service of the Royal Navy and later the War Office. Became in 1947 the Penleath (II) of the firm Fowey Tug Co. Ltd.. Her funnel was yellow painted with a black coloured band (top). (1)

1. The website http://www.naval-history.net/WW1NavyBritishLGNavalPrizeMoney.htm supplies more details about her service as the Chester III calling her a tug. J.J. Colledge called her an armed boarding steamer. The website http://www.foweyharbour.co.uk/assets/file/pdfs/Commercial/Tug%20History/towagehistory.pdf mentioned that except for the war service worked on the Thames. She was finally decommissioned and went in 1962 to Rotterdam, Netherlands to be broken up.
