South Dakota-class
An item dated Washington 19 November reported that the USA department ordered the building of three battleships with totally building costs more as 150.000.000 US dollars. The contract for a fourth ship was yet not allowed. First were the tenders to be studied. The battleships had a measurement of 35.000 tons. Two of this type were all ready laid down. The edition dated 3 December published an item dated Washington 1 December reporting that the New York Shipbuilding Corporation got the order for the fourth battleship costs 53.000.000 US dollars.(1)

1. The 37.200 tons (standard) North Carolina-class consisted of the North carolina and the Washington was laid down on 27 October 1937 respectively 1 June 1940. Succeeded by the 35.562 tons (standard) South Dakota-class consisting of the South Dakota, Indiana, Massachusetts and Alabama, the 3 lid down in 1939 and tle last one in 1940. So the newsitem must be referring to the South Dakota-class.
