British repairs hips HMS Assistance bound for the Mediterranean according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1901-1902 no. 7

An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht reporting that the British repair ship Assistance (1) with a displacement of 4.200 ton and a speed of 13 miles was delivered at Chatham. It was to be fitted out with a small gun to be used for signalling and a wireless telegraph device and further more distlling equipment with a capacity of 150 tons daily. Her crew numbered 262 men and she was to be added to the Mediterranean Fleet.

The edition dated 1902-1903 no. 9 referred to the magazine Mitth. reporting that she was fitted out with a crucible allowing the casting of work pieces with a maximum weight of 3 ton, further more was a steamhammer and a large plate bending machine on board, all working pneumatic.
