German navy receiving new guns according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1897-1898 no. 4

An item referred to the magazine Naval Program reporting that according to an order dated 27 October 1896 were all new guns to be used for the new ships with a maximum calibre of 24cm to be quick firing L/40 guns. The Kaiser Friedrich III and her sister ship Ersatz Friedrich der Grosse, Ersatz Leipzig, cruisers K, L, M and N and Freya now being built were the first to be fitted out with these new guns and probably later as much a possible all the other ships.
