Schiffbau reporting that on 28 August 1928 at Fiume the Italian flotilla leader Nicolo was launched. She belonged to a class of 12 ships laid down in 1927 with a design speed of 38 miles allowed by a horsepower of 50.000 hp. This was an remarkable improvement compared with the 34 miles at 34.000 hp of the Leone-class. Further more was believed that in the meantime a contract was signed for building a flotilla leader with a contracted horsepower of 100.000 hp.
