Dutch shipyards at Haarlem, Rotterdam and Hendrik Ido Ambacht building Panamanian whale catchers according to the Dutch newspapers De Tijd dated 4 July 1957

An item reported that the Dutch shipyards Haarlemsche Scheepsbouwerij at Haarlem, N.V. Scheepswerf De Hoog at Rotterdam and the Scheepswerf en Gashouderbouw Jonker en Stans at Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht built totally five whale catchers for the Compania de Navegacion Rosina, Panama. The first two yards built each 2, the latter 1. In August were these vessels to depart for their base in South Georgia. The order for the building was got via mediation of the Hollandsche Scheepsbouw Association, Amsterdam, Netherlands. The second on the range of these five vessels was the R2 which achieved during the official trial a speed of 16,5 knots. She was with yard number 277 built by the latter shipyard. Her dimensions were 51,00 (between perpendiculars)-56,00 (over all) x 9,00 x 4,80 (hold). Her horsepower was 2.300 hp. Launched on 20 October 1056 was she delivered on 26 June a year later.
