An item dated Lausanne, Switzerland 23 July reported that on 13 July around 1,200 settlers destined for Brazil left Basel coming from the cantons Friburg [Fribourg] and Wailiserland. This was the first transport, the second of around 500 people coming from the canton Bern departed on 15 July to Rotterdam, Netherlands where they were awaited by mr. Gachet with the necessary ships. The third and last transport with people coming from the cantons Lucern [Luzern] , Solothurn and Argan was held up by lacking transports. Two hundred of them of the canton Lucern were waiting since 12 July at Lauffenburg and were there supported by the Portuguese consul.
