Smyrna, 4 August. The Dutch brig of war Merkuur (1) captain lieutenant H.J. Tuning arrived coming from Athens and departed from here towards Salonika. The Turkish fleet arrived at Smyrna 30 July. She was commanded by Ahmed Feyzi Pasha, Grand Admiral and consisted of 5 ships of the line, 8 frigates, 3 brigs and a steamboat. At arrival they were at once saluted with 19 shots by the Austrian corvette Adria, the city batteries, the British corvette Dido and the Dutch brig Merkuur. The salutes were immediately returned.
