The French navy in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 10 August 1844

According to the newspaper Journal des Débats of Paris arrived the Prince de Joinville 23 July 06.00 o'clock off Tangier on board of the steam corvette le Pluton. (1) When the French subjects were threatened by the Moorish population after the tidings that they want to leave the city, the Prince agreed to go towards Cadiz permitting the governor three days to solve the problems. The Pasha of Larasche allowed the departure of the French and which were safely embarked on board of ships waiting for them. The Argus was left at Tangier, Morocco to protect them while embarking.(2) Another steamship was ordered to collect the French consuls at Rabat, Saffi, Dar-Beida, Mazagan and Mogadore. The Danish steamship Hecla which brought the Neapolitan consul general De Martine to Laresche transported more as 100 men from several countries towards Gibraltar.
