According to official government papers consisted the United States Navy of 15 ships of the line, 12 frigates, some steamships of 36 and 44 guns and a large number of corvettes, sloops, brigs, goelettes and other vessels all at sea, available of being build. The ship yards had enough timber etc. stored necessary for the new building.
