French navy asking for huge budget for building warships according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 2 April 1897

An item dated Paris, France 1 April reported that the minister of navy was the same morning by the cabinet permitted to ask on the 2nd the Parliament for a budget of 80 million French francs needed for the new building of warships. The budget was to be dived over 10 or 15 budget years.(1)
