Japanese navy fought with Chinese squadron near Haiyangtas according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder courant dated 21 September 1894

The battle between the Japanese and Chinese fleets on 17 September 1894 off Dagushan, Yellow Sea.

An item dated Tokyo, Japan 20th referred to an official telegram of the headquarters that the Japanese fleet fought around 03.00 o’clock on the 16th 35 miles North East of Haiyangtas with a Chinese squadron. Of the latter numbering 11 warships and 6 torpedo boats were 4 ships destroyed with a fifth one burning.(1)
