Movements of the Dutch warships Zr.Ms. Juno, Etna, Curacao, Jason and Rijn according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 3 October 1842

Rijn or Rhijn

An item dated Den Helder, Netherlands 26 September reported that the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Juno (1) captain Mol would depart on 5th October towards Surinam with on board of the newly appointed governor of the Dutch West Indies Mr. J.B. Elias and household. At the same time would the steamship Zr.Ms. Etna (2) lieutenant Baars depart towards Surinam. The Dutch steamship Zr.Ms. Curacao (3) lieutenant 1st class A.A. Bolken now lying at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands would replace her at Den Helder. On 10th October would the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Jason (4) captainVan der Plaat leave Den Helder and the Dutch frigate Zr.Ms. Rijn (5) temporarily captain lieutenant Byl de Vroe leave Vlissingen, Netherlands both bound for the Mediterranean.

4. Frigate 2nd class, on stocks at the navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands by P. Glavimans 1824, launched 1829, docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 30 May-11 June 1834, guard ship at Willemsoord, Netherlands 1847, condemned 30 April 1850, sold on the navy yard at Willemsoord for ƒ 23.0000 to be broken up Tuesday 10.00 o’clock 19 November 1850, 1461 tons displacement and armament of 44 guns.
5. Also called Rhijn, frigate, laid down as the French La Vestale at the navy shipyard at Rotterdam, Netherlands by P. Glavimans in March 1813, handed over to the Netherlands in 1814 and renamed Rijn, launched on 5 October 1816, lengthened in 1825, conversion into a paddle steamship failed, shortened 1830, guard ship at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands and Willemsoord, Netherlands since 1852, broken up at Hellevoetsluis in 1875, dimensions 145 x 36,8 x 19 French feet or 55,25 x 12,3 x 5,75 metres and an armament of 44-54 guns (since 1830).
