British built minelayer and torpedo trial vessel Volcano handed over to Portugal according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1910-1911 no. 9

An item reported in April a twin screw steam vessel built by Thornycroft, England was handed over to the Portuguese navy. It was to be used as minelayer and torpedo trials vessel. Dimensions 35,6 (over all) x 5,95 x 2,0 x 3,35 (hold) metres. Speed 12,05 miles. For mine laying was the aft ship fitted out with load bars and an electric or manual winch. For testing the torpedoes was right behind the poop 1-45cm torpedo tube which could be horizontally moved and further more two tubes with systems for submerged launching. A movable searchlight was placed above the bridge. Further more was a 6,1metres long Thornycroft motor launch available.(1)

1. This must be the Volcano. Fitted out with 1-coal fired vertical triple engine and 1 Thornycroft cylindrical boiler delivering 414 hp. Her crew numbered 24 men. Served as far in the late 1940’s.
