British submarine HMS K26 1918-1931
Of a modified K-class submarines namely the K23-28 of which she was the only completed. Building ordered on 10 June 1918, laid down at the shipyard of Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness, England, launched on 26 August 1919, towed to Chatham, England and there completed, commissioned on 15 September 1923, decommissioned while her displacement was too large regarded the London Naval Treaty (1930) in April 1931 and finally sold to Mamo Brothers, Malta to be broken up in March 1931.
Displacement 2.170 tons/.2.140 long tons (surfaced)-2.570 tons/2.530 long tons (submerged) and as dimensions 107 x 8,69 x 6,02 metres or 351 x 28.6 x 19.9 feet. Fitted out with 2-10.500 shp Brown-Curtiss or Parsons geared steam turbines, 2 oil fired Yarrow boilers, 4-1.070 hp electric motors and 1-800hp Vickers diesel generator for charging the batteries while she was surfaced. Speed 9 (submerged)-23,5 (surfaced) knots. Range while surfaced 12.00 (maximum speed)-12.760 (with a speed of 10 knots) nautical miles and while submerged 8 (with a speed of 8 knots)-30 (with a speed of 4 knots) nautical miles. Fuel oil bunker capacity 300 tons. Test diving depth was 76 metres or 250 feet. Diving time 3 minutes 12 second to a depth of 24 metres/80 feet. Her crew numbered 59 men (including 6 officers). The armament consisted of 6-45,7cm/18” torpedo tubes in the bow and in the beam 4-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes, carried 8 spare torpedoes with her, 2-10cm/4” guns and 1-7,6cm/3” gun.
