British battleship HMS Thunderer fitted out with the newest torpedoes according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1912-1913 no. 6


An item reported that the British battleship HMS Thunderer was fitted out with the newest type of torpedoes. It were heated air torpedoes with a weight of 1,25 ton, containing 200lb guncotton, range with a 30 miles speed of 10.000 yards or even 45 miles speed when used on shorter distance.(1)

1. Of the Orion-class. Building ordered in 1909. Laid down by the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company in the Bow Creek, Leamouth Wharf, England on 13 April 1910, launched on 1 February 1911, commissioned in May 1912, decommissioned in 1921, served as cadet ship between 1922-1926 and finally sold to be broken up in 1926. Fitted out with 3-53,3cm/21” submerged torpedo tubes.
