French submarine building program under 1906 budget according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1906-1907 no. 8
An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht reporting that the French minister of navy ordered to built 16 submarines of around 400 ton similar to the 18 ordered in 1905. The surfaces speed with 700 hp horsepower was to be 12 miles. The armament consisted of 7 launching devices. Their crew numbered 24 men included 2 officers. Totally were 20 submarines to be built under the 1906 budget. About 4 submarines was hardly anything known. They seemed to be of a new design with a displacement of 800 ton and to be used for offensive purposes far away from the harbours. It was believed their range was sufficient enough to go from Cherbourg. France towards the Baltic or the Mediterranean of even to cross the Atlantic. If these boats were indeed destined for long distance voyaged needed the crew accommodation to be improved in all manners.
