French firm Compagnie de Fives-Lille building several floating dry docks for French navy according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1889 no. 10
An item referred to the La Marine Francaise reporting that at La Seyne, France two steel zinced floating docks for torpedo boats were built. With as dimensions 30 x 7,5 x 4 (height) metres were the docks able to dock torpedo boats with a maximum length of 42 metres. Lacking machinery were the docks sunk by the opening of valves. To lift dock and torpedo boat were pumps used driven from a lighter of a shore device. The Compagnie de Fives-Lille, Dunkirk, France was ordered to built 12 similar docks to be used at the coastal torpedo boat stations.
