Home made torpedoes much cheaper for US Navy as torpedoes manufactured abroad according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1910-1911 no. 11

An item reported that the costs for the USA to acquire a torpedo made abroad was included customs taxes 4.800 US dollars, while acquiring homemade torpedoes the costs were 4.300 US dollars. For a number of 20 torpedoes was it so possible to reduce the costs with 10.000 US dollars. The American torpedo workshops could delivered yearly 50 torpedoes and on short notice even 100 torpedoes.
