Original built around 1606 and sold by Jan Jansz van Helmont to the Dutch East Indies Company in 1609. The chamber Amsterdam of the EIC ordered the British captain Henry Hudson to find a new sea route via the Northern seas around Russia towards Asia. Hudson was a well experienced sailor while in service of the British Muscovy Company he regularly visited the White Sea. Via de Faroe Islands arrived he in June 1609 at New Foundland searching for a North West Passage through the American continent while using the rivers and great lakes. In September the same year he discovered the entrance to the later after hum named Hudson-river. In the end of 1618 was the Halve Maen lost in a sea battle between the Dutch and Portuguese off the coast of Java, Indonesia. On 23 July 1988 was at the Now Dock yard, Albany the keel of the replica laid down under supervision of Nick Benton. The building was an initiative of dr. Andrew Hendricks. Launched on 10 June 1989 and in spring 1990 started her maiden voyage. After the council of the Dutch town Hoorn on 16 December 2014 to lent her for a period of at least five years, was she with the heavy load carrier Traveller from Newport, USA transported to the Netherlands.

USA-flagged, MMSI 366464000 and call sign WDE8672. Gross register tonnage 50,80 tons, net register tonnage 34,47 tons and deadweight 67,85 tons and as dimensions 14,6 (keel)-19,2 (waterline)-25,7 (stern-fore ship) x 3,2 (included bowsprit) x 5m3 x 2,7 metres.
