American cabinet asked Congress for approval building battleships according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 30 April 1938

An item dated Washington, USA 30th reported that the American president Roosevelt (1) asked the Congress to approve immediately a budget of 5 million US dollars needed to start with the building of two battleships. Within the navy was said that the these two new battleships were no part of the large fleet program. At that moment were already two battleships being built and was the budget approved of another two. If the Congress approved  the new asked budget, was the US navy to be increased with six new battleships.(2)
