French cruisers 3rd class Galiliée and Lavoiser performed very well during trials according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1897-1898 No. 7

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that the French 3rd class cruiser Galiliée (1) performed very well during her trials and achieved a higher speed than the contracted 20 miles and more horsepower as contracted. Was to serve in the Mediterranean squadron. Also the French cruiser 3rd class Lavoisier (2) like her sister ship Galilée performed very well during her trials. Both cruisers were built using the designs of director of naval construction Albaret. Building costs each 5 millions French francs. Both fitted out with Belleville boilers.
