The coal consumption of the American battleship USS South Carolina according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1909-1910 no. 6
An item referred to the Army and Navy Journal reported that according to unofficial tidings the American battleship South Carolina had a coal consumption of 1,4lbs.ihp. During the 2 24 hours trials was the consumption 1,5lbs/hp. During the first 24 hours trial with 17,7 miles was the rpm 110,5 or 1,5 more as the contracted rpm. During the second 24 hours trial with a speed of 12,5 miles was the rpm 77 or 3 more as contracted, During the full speed trial was her maximum speed 20,52 miles in one run, the medium speed 19,25 miles although expected was 18,5 miles. During the 4 hours trial at sea was the speed 1,88 and the coal consumption 1,39lbd/hour/hp.(1)
