USA wanted to found naval and airbases in Brazil according to the Dutch newspaper Delftsche courant dated 3 June 1940

An item referred to the New York Daily Mirror which reported that the American Department of foreign affairs was negotiating with the Brazilian cabinet to be allowed founding a airbase and a naval base in north Brazil. The US Air force intended to sent experts to Brazil for training the Brazilian pilots, improving existing airbases and if necessary suitable to be used by the US Army. The American president Roosevelt pointed out in the meantime that the relative small distance between West-Africa and the Brazilian coast caused this actions.
